Board Information and How to Nominate

Elizabethtown Public Library is currently accepting nominations for the Board of Trustees. If you, or someone you know, is interested in being considered for the Board please review the following which includes instructions and materials required to submit a nomination.


Elizabethtown Public Library is Making Dreams Come True: Educating, enriching, and empowering the Greater Elizabethtown Area by stimulating learning, literacy, and the acquisition of knowledge through the provision of educational, informational, and recreational books, resources, and programs.


The board of Trustees is in place to protect and advance the mission of Elizabethtown Public Library through effective governance.

The Library board currently meets on selected Tuesday afternoons at 3:30 pm on the Library property. Committees of the board meet at varying times and locations.

The board is currently seeking board members with significant community relationships in the Greater Elizabethtown Area who have experience/knowledge in

– financial planning & forecasting for businesses/nonprofits,

– legal acumen, especially in relation to nonprofits and estate planning, and/or

– advancement.


The board seeks appropriate representation of the Greater Elizabethtown Area and, should qualified nominations exceed the number of available positions, the Board will be preferential to nominations from West Donegal and Conoy Townships. Additional considerations for greater board diversity will be used in selecting potential candidates from among qualified nominations.


Nominations may be sent by email to: or by mail to Nominations Committee, Elizabethtown Public Library, 10 South Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022. Nominations may also be dropped off at the Library during operating hours.


▫ If you would like to nominate yourself for the Board of Trustees, please send a 1 to 2 page letter explaining your interest in the board and skills. A resume may be included with the letter of interest to help better inform the board.


▫ If you are nominating someone other than yourself, please send a 1 to 2 page letter explaining why the person would be a good addition to the board and what skills they bring to the table. Please let us know if you have spoken to the person regarding the nomination and make sure to include contact information for the person being nominated.


Nominations are currently accepted at any time. Nominations are reviewed for eligibility by the Nominating Committee within 30 days of receipt of the nomination. All nominees will be contacted within 60 days of receipt of nomination regardless of eligibility.


Nominees who meet eligibility criteria will be sent a letter that informs the prospect of the board’s interest, a brief description of the recruitment and nominations process, asking if they would like to be considered for the Library board. Included with the letter is a copy of the position description, which is linked above, that details the roles, responsibilities, and qualifications of a board member. Additional material will be included about the board and its responsibilities along with a form that the prospect can return indicating they would like more information and/or they want to be considered for the board.
